Eat a pizza, feed a hungry child

Revised: April 9, 2010

Eat a pizza, feed a hungry child. That’s the idea behind the Mimmos and 94.7’s Rude Awakening pizza campaign that, last year saw just over 1,800 children fed for a year. In 2010, the goal is to break all previous records by feeding an estimated 3,000 underprivileged children with the aid of Food4Africa – a charity organisation that aims to provide balanced meals to hungry children across Africa.

Mimmos, South Africa’s favourite Italian family restaurant chain, together with 94.7 Highveld Stereo’s Jeremy Mansfield recently rejoined forces to enter the 2010 Global Pizza Challenge for a shot at designing a pizza worthy of being crowned the world’s best.

It was a very tough decision, and after much deliberation, Jeremy Mansfield has finally settled on a Moroccan theme which will see Moroccan chicken, roasted bell peppers, pickled aubergine, rosa tomatoes and mint added to the pizza of all pizzas. The result is going to be a culinary masterpiece that is sure to whet the appetites of all pizza lovers across South Africa.

The delicious pizza will also be available from the 2nd March at all Mimmos restaurants across the country for a four-week period.

Mimmos will once again donate a percentage of the sales of each and every “Jeremy’s” pizza, over the four weeks, to Food4Africa.

Claire Shephard, national marketing manager of Mimmos says that she is thrilled to be back on board again this year and hopes that they will be able to feed twice as many children this year.

“There is nothing more rewarding than contributing to the social upliftment of a child, and being able to nourish those who do not have any money to feed themselves. Many children are born into this world with parents who are unable to feed or take care of them. Through this initiative we are helping to feed many hungry children all over Africa.”
